Kellys Creative Paper Clay Tip 10/13/12

My Creative paper clay tip is a bit bizarre but I found out this by accident and then fell in love with it. I love doing dark dolls and art at times. If you make a mold out of your creative paperclay (by sticking a face,doll, bat etc) in it and leave it dry you can then use it as a mold and the small cracks and shrinkage add to the deliciousness of the project, especially when you paint it! Try it! It is fun especially for the kids!

Annie Bella's Tip for October

This tip is especially valuable for those that love to make jewelry or art dolls.  Did you know you don't have to wait until after your project dries to add your findings.  Because Creative Paperclay shrinks when it dries, you can add your findings to your project before it dries.  As the project dries the Creative Paperclay will shrink around your findings and they will stay put.  This tip also works with Delight Air Dry Modeling Compound.

Halloween Coffin!

Halloween is one of my favorite celebrations during the year.  It doesn't have all the pressure of cooking a big meal, the big family gathering and all that goes along with other holiday.  I love table top decorations around the house.  Today I am making a little scary creature for my tiny coffin using Creative Paperclay®.

Supplies:
Creative Paperclay®
Coffin from Michael's
Sakura Crystal Lacquer
Terri Sproul Mixer's Gold
Articus Frozen Charlotte Mold
Amazing Mold Putty

Items Made with Creative Paperclay®
Frozen Charlottes (large and small)
Fleur-De-Lis
Skull and Cross Bones with a Crown
Heart

Stash:
Rhinestones - Red
Dresden Crown & Wings
Black Craft Paint
Red Craft Paing
Heart cookie cutter
Shiny red fabric
Trim - black lace

With Creative Paperclay® make the doll elements and decorations for your coffin. Using the Articus Frozen Charlotte Mold make a  doll (I used the tallest doll).  With Mold Putty make a mold of a doll head a little bigger than the Frozen Charlotte's head.  Also from a mold of a wooden Fleur-De-Lis from the craft store or hardware store and a Skull and Cross Bones with a Crown charm make additional pieces with Creative Paperclay®. Make small herar with the cookie cutter.

Paint the Creative Paperclay® doll with clear Sakura Crystal Lacquer while the lacquer is still wet add the red rhinestones for the eyes. Attach the over sized head to the body with Sakura Crystal Lacquer. Attach crown and wings. set aside to dry.  Paint the Fleur-De-Lis and crown on the Skull & Cross Bones with Sakura Crystal Lacquer and Terri Sproul Mixer's Gold. Adhere the rhinestones to the Skull and Cross Bones with Sakura Crystal Lacquer.

Paint the coffin black with black craft paint, let it dry. Then paint with clear Sakura Crystal Lacquer, set aside to dry.  Line coffin with shiny red fabric and trim with black lace. Adhere the Fleur-De-Lis and Skull & Cross Bones with Sakura Crystal Lacquer.

 Here you have a small,

 but creepy coffin for Halloween!

A Creative Paperclay® Decorative Ornament for Halloween

 

We now have a new Creative Paperclay® team just starting and I’m very proud to say that I’m on that team! That being said, here I am with another Paperclay post! The other day when I cut out a shape for the Christmas ornament that was in my last post, I also cut out a shape for a Halloween decoration. It all starts with this stuff: I cannot emphasize enough what a great product it is and how easy it is to work with. I started out with my Paperclay shape: and then just decorated it with a collage of different Halloween items that I had. I gessoed the shape first and then used Mod Podge to adhere and cover the items which were put onto the shape. Here’s the finished work:

   

I took two pictures of the finished ornament because I put some glitter on it and some of the pictures had a bit of glare on them. lol Your imagination is your only limitation when you work with Creative Paperclay® You can purchase Creative Paperclay® at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, JoAnns and of course from Creative Paperclay® itself. Cracked Bead making

Hi all
Here is a tutorial on how I made my beads for my bracelet....

You will need:

• Creative Paperclay®
• Acrylic Paint
• One step Crackle
• several bamboo skewers
• nail file or sandpaper
• Dark brown or black reinker or watery acrylic paint
• Pearlex varnish
• dry old rag
• Thin elastic
• Small beads
• brush
• water to clean brush

Step 1
form your beads out of Creative Paperclay®

Step 2
poke the bamboo skewers into the center of each bead to make the whole

Step 3
Once all bead are dry sand them with a nail file or similar to sand off any unwanted bumps...

Step 4
paint your beads your desired colour... (since turquoise is so "in" at the moment here in NZ I went with that...) - I used Jacquard Lumiere paints Turquoise and pearl white mixed to make a light Turquoise colour.

Step 5
Once the paint is dry paint the beads again with One Step Crackle and wait for that to dry...

Step 6
the cracks appear when the One step crackle is dry... now to enhance the cracks you will need a watery dark colour... I used Stampin Up! reinker - early espresso with a little water.

Paint on and before the ink is dry dab it off with a dry cloth/rag. It will stay in the cracks and leave your colour too.

Step 7
to finish your bead off and set it nicely paint with Pearlex varnish - let it dry.

string it up with the smaller beads in the middle of each paperclay bead and you are done!

Creative Paperclay® Christmas Decoration

 

Today’s post is about a Christmas decoration that I made out of paperclay and trying out for the new Creative Paperclay® Design Team. I love Creative Paperclay® and I love coming up with new ways of making things from it. This is my third post about Creative Paperclay® in the past four days, so that should tell you how much I enjoy working with it.

 I started out of course with

my paperclay which I rolled out and then cut a shape from. I used two stamps and pressed them into the clay to make imprints and then used an awl and made a hole in the top of it and let it set for a day to dry. I did turn it over when it was about halfway dry. Once everything was dry I used some black paint to highlight the writing and painted the wreath. I then used glitter paint to cover the rest of the front and added swirls and glittery stick-ons. Once all the embellishing of the decoration was complete I threaded a ribbon through the hole at the top and voila’ all complete!

                                  

I thought it turned out beautifully! My husband couldn’t believe it was made out of clay! I know I’m happy with it. The pictures don’t do justice to all the glitteriness!
