Brenda's Wine Plaque

Good morning, Brenda here again and welcome to another project using Creative Paperclay®.  I love recreating things I see in the stores for a fraction of the cost and today I am here to show you how you can make your own signs.  I am slowly turning my dining room into a "wine" motif.  I love wine and thought I'd like to have a wine room.  I then need to have a sign for my "wine" room and here is how I started. 

For Christmas I received this awesome vanity mirror and the box it came in was so super sturdy I threw it into my "recycle" room.  Yes, I have a room dedicated to recylceable crap as hubby calls it.  I might have a small problem...

I cut the cardboard down to the size I wanted my plaque to be and cut two pieces of it. 

Then I mod podged those two pieces together and held them in place with some clothespins to dry. 

It only takes a few minutes to completely dry.    

If you were here in the beginning of the month I had my February tip and that's when I told you you could cover most anything with paperclay and didn't even need to use any bonding stuff.  I am here to show you how to do that.

I rolled my paperclay fairly thin and just wrapped it around the cardboard pieces.  Make sure to get the corners good.  You can always add a bit of clay to the backside if needed. 

This is how it looks all wrapped up. 

Then I used my brick embossing folder and just layed it on top of the paperclay wrapped cardboard and pressed ever so gently.  You can using a rolling pin for this also. 

and here is my embossed plaque,  make sure you let it dry completely.  This took about 24 hours to dry. 

Then I painted it with red acrylic paint, but it was too red for me. 

I watered down some brown acrylic paint and painted, wiped,  

painted, wiped until I got the affect I was looking for. 

I used an emery board and distressed the plaque a bit more.  I was going for that weathered look. 

Then I cut the words Cheer up a little out of some chipboard using my cricut and laid that upon my plaque 

to use as a stencil and 

using white acrylic paint I stenciled those words. 

Pretty cool so far, huh? 

I got the word Wine and a tiny cork screw out of vinyl also using my cricut and attached them to the plaque.

I also used some tiny clothespins and painted them brown to use as wine glass charms so everyone knows whose glass is theirs.

I cut some tiny "wine bottles" out of reddish cardstock and glued them to the front of the clothespins and just attached them to the plaque with some hot glue 

added some beaded wine charms that I also made and voila 

 I am so very happy with the way this turned out.  I've seen plaques in the stores for as little as $5 to as much as $30 and this project not only didn't hardly cost me any money, but I made it my OWN.

Lock and Key Pendant

Good morning and welcome to my last post for Creative Paperclay®.  I am so sad to be leaving the design team, but room needs to be made for some fresh talent.  Believe me though, this is not the last you've seen of me using the paper clay.  Since I have been on the team I have found a new love and this week I am also showing another new love...

First I started with a mold I had received from Articus Studios.  Being on this design team has given me LOTS of fabulous opportunities to try different things.

I have a passion about keys.  Especially skeleton keys and this mold had just a great variety.

I pressed my clay into the mold and let it set overnight.  The next day I pulled my keys and locks out and let them air dry the rest of the way.  I always leave my clay pieces in the mold overnight so as I do not distort them trying to get them out of the mold before they are at least 3/4 of the way dry.

Then I used an emery board and sanded the keys and locks.  I even have used my dremel to get inside those little openings.  Love this tool.

Here is my key and lock all dried and sanded.  Now came the other portion of my new found passion.  Our very own Terri Sproul has come out with a new product called Mixers.  It's so awesome...you just "mix" it into some crystal lacquer and it creates a paint like product.  As soon as Terri released them I bought some and told hubby how much I loved them.  For valentine's day he surprised me with the entire product line.  I was so excited and now I have so many colors to play with.  It will also last a very long time because you don't need very much of the "mixer" at all.  Anyway...I chose the "bronze" color and a dabble of 3d crystal lacquer and this is how my new necklace looks.

Shamrock Pick

Good morning friends and fellow crafters,


I am here to show you a quick (not quite done) project that I am making for work.  I've been commissioned by work to create some giveaways for St. Patty's Day and I am so excited about it.  I made something similar for Valentine's day and was asked to do it again for St. Patty's Day.  I love creating projects, especially for a purpose.  Now the opening sentence said "not quite done", but in fact the project is done, but I cannot show it all right now because there are going to be a few different posts for this project.  Which in turn means, you will have to keep checking back to see the entire finished project.

I started with rolling my Creative Paperclay® out between two skewers for an even thickness.  Then I cut the shamrocks out with a cookie cutter I got at Michael's for 99 cents.  I love a bargain.

Then I placed the skewers on the clay and pressed them into the clay and used white glue to attach them

and let them dry for 24 hours.

After all the shamrocks were dried, I cut the little stems out of the clay

and covered the skewers.

and sanded it after that dried completely.

Then I painted them green and used my stickles to outline them.

Delightful Dart

Good morning,

today I am here to show you another fabulous idea using paper clay.  For this project I used the Delight air dry modeling compound.  I love using this stuff because it is so light and fluffy.  I especially like using it for my scrapbooking and cardmaking because of that reason.

So I started off using a dart

to make my mold.

I added the Delight clay to the

mold and let it sit for about 30 minutes

and then unmolded it.

before it completely dried, I 

trimmed it down a bit with a

regular pair of scissors.  That's

another reason I love this delight

so much, it's soooo soft.

Then I painted the barrel gold, the tip black and the shaft purple with some acrylic paints and 

split a flight in half and glued it to the top of the dart.  

Now I can either turn this into a pin to wear (very light) or I might add it to a scrapbook page about my

 dart tournament I am playing in this weekend.

I just love all the fun things I can do with paperclay.

Making Your Own Embellishments by Brenda

Good morning

It's so much fun to create your own embellishments for your scrapbooking or card making and using Creative Paperclay is exactly what you need to do it.  It's lightweight and very easy to use. 

I needed some banner style embellishments for a card I am making for my dad for father's day.  I know you can buy stickers and chipboard items, but why buy them when you can make your own.  Again, this was so much fun to make and I already have a few more ideas for next time.

Okay, so this is how I started:

I used a cookie cutter I got from Michaels in a multi pack and cut the triangles out. 

Kinda reminds me of making sugar cookies...hmmm, nummy.

I forgot to take a picture of piercing the holes in the corners of the triangles. 

I used an awl, but you could use a pin or a paperpiercer also.  Just make sure you make the

holes big enough for whatever you are going to insert into them. 

Then I used a damp towel and gave the clay pieces a little texture. 

I want these pieces to look a bit antiqued.

I used some walnut ink to antique the paperclay pieces once they were dry. 

It took about 2 days for them to dry, but I blame that on the humidity we are having here.

I just dabbed it directly onto the paperclay piece and then used a rag to wipe it off a bit.

Here is a closeup of one of the paperclay pieces.

I inserted copper colored brads into the holes and snipped the ends off,

because the extended past the edges.

I added some dimensional letter stickers to the paperclay and

there are my very own embellishments for a card.
