December Tip from Rachel Whetzel

My tip for you this month has to do with the bones of what you create. I've shared with you some tips about enforcing your structures before, but today I want to take that a little bit further. Sometimes, when I'm creating, I want to create something large, that I don't want to use a ton of clay on, but I also need to have the basic shape for the piece before I start. In some cases, it's very important that the internal structure be super solid, or I risk that piece not being strong enough to support the rest of my work. That's the issue with the piece I'm working on this month. So I'm here to remind you that Creative Paperclay® sticks to EVERYTHING!! I seriously haven't met anything it won't stick to. So for the piece you see above, I used a wooden candle holder, and then screwed an old, used plastic water catcher from plant pot. I've made them secure by screwing them together, and the wood will make a solid base. The planter piece will be a great start for the top shape of me piece, and between the screws holding them together, and the clay I'll use around the outside, this piece should be VERY sturdy. Later on this month, I'll share WHAT I made with them!

So, what interesting surfaces have YOU used as the base for your Creative Paperclay® projects?

Leave me a comment and let me know! I would love for you to visit me at my "house" too!! Thank you so much for reading!!  ~rachel

This is exactly why I love this product-- because you can so easily build right on top of everything else. I'm fairly new to the product, but I just love how I can easily rework a piece that I thought I was finished with! I'm doing that right now!
