A Mixed Media Canvas using Delight Clay™

 Hello!

Welcome to another tutorial. Today I will show you how to make a mixed media canvas using Delight Clay™. 

Delight Clay™ is so light that it is perfect for embellishments. In the video tutorial below, I will show you how I made the embellishments for a mixed media canvas. I will also demonstrate how I put this canvas together. 

The supplies I used are:

Delight Clay ™

Dylusions Ink - or any you have on hand. I used Poster Red. 

Gesso - I used Liquitex Basics

Pencil

Acrylics Paints - I used Golden Acrylics Fluorescent Green and Pink

Black acrylic paint

Credit glue

Washi tape

Gold marker

Metallic spray ink - I used Art Anthology Gilded Gold

Brenda's Hot Cocoa Bottle

Good morning, Brenda from Creativity is a State of Mind here again and welcome to another Creative Paperclay® post.  With Christmas literally just days away I am scrambling for those last minute gifts.  Sometimes you just need a little something for someone and that is what I have for you today. I had made a project awhile ago using some snowflakes that I cut out of vinyl and then I was left with all these scraps of snowflake cutout from the vinyl.  I hate to see anything go to waste so I used them up like this... I started out using an empty bottle because I have soooo many and adhered those pieces randomly on the bottle. 

 

 Some of those pieces were pretty close to the edge and if I was to etch them I might go over, so I just used some scrap pieces of contact paper and adhered those close to those edges.  Then I added my glass etching paste and let that sit for about 10 minutes.

Because I hate waste I use whatever I have on hand and scrap the etching cream off of the item that's being etched and put it back into the bottle.  I've been using this same bottle of etching cream forever.  

 Once I removed those pieces of vinyl the snowflakes came to life.  

I LOVE IT!!!

 Now you might  be wondering why this is a paperclay post?  Well, the bottle was a Maggi bottle and the lid wasn't going to cut it.  

So I rolled out some paperclay and put it around the lid.  I wasn't worried about smoothing it out because... 

while it was still wet I rolled it over my "wood grain" embossing folder to give it dimension. 

Once it was all dry, I just used my exacto knife to cut away some of the clay so that it had a perfect fit  

and painted it brown, black, brown, watered down black, etc. until I got the "look" of a cork 

See the dimension?  Isn't that cool? 

and here is my faux cork.  (really baaaad picture) 

Next I rolled out some paper clay and 

used an embossing folder and sandwiched the paperclay between it.  

and gently used my rolling pin to get a good image embossed. 

Then I used my snowflake cookie cutter to cut the shapes out randonly

and let them dry overnight.

I made a boat load of these and have another project to show you soon. 

Very cool embossed snowflakes.

Then I painted them white and embellished 

them with some gold glitter glue.

I filled the bottle with hot cocoa mix and added two of my paperclay 

snowflake ornaments and now I have the perfect gift to give to someone. 

I am really liking this project and I have just the perfect person in mind to give this to. 

I really wished the camera could pick up on the etching better,

but in person this looks magnificent. 

I added a bow and now I have the perfect little gift

Jess B's Eclectic Tree Ornament

Hello Everyone!

It has been pretty 

busy around here

and brain is working on overtime with 

creations to share

Sometimes things you envision comes

out different in the process

ECLECTIC TREE ORNAMENT/GIFT

I used star shaped cookie cutters

and put them to good use

 After following the directions for 

baking the Creative Paperclay®

 I painted the stars with Lumiere Acrylics
 Halo Blue Gold and Pearl White on one side

Mod Podged
 with Martha Stewart's Aquamarine Crystal and Tinsel Glitters

Rolled and used Tim Holtz Distress Stain

Brushed Pewter to create balls to be placed between the

stacked stars

I added pearls underneath the faux leaves/branches ;0)

This can also be created with your 

children and given to their teachers for the holidays

just changed to your color palette

and add beads or metals or whatever your heart desires

How-To Make Snowflake Earrings

A special Creative Paperclay® Modeling Material Project for today (I am switching with another one of my Design Team Teammates).  This project was inspired by winter and the thoughts of a White Christmas, something that doesn't happen very often in the south.  I also figured if I did the snowflakes I could wear it longer than if I did Christmas Stuff.

Materials:
Creative Paperclay® Modeling Material
Fondant Roller
Exacto Knife
Sandpaper
Snowflake Mold
Snowflake Stamp
Liquitex Iridescent Gel Medium
Studio G Silver and Light Blue Glitter Glue
6 Seed Beads
2 Jump Rings
2 Fish Hook Earrings
Round Pliers

 1.  Roll out clay to an even thickness.

 2.  Push clay into mold.

 3.  Trim while in mold.  Allow to dry for about 10 minutes in the mold this will help the clay keep its shape upon removal.

 4.  Unmold clay piece and repeat steps 1 - 3 as many times as needed.

5.  Allow pieces to dry 24 hours.  Trim with Exacto Knife, sand edges, make hole for jump ring and paint.

 6.  Add beads to jump rings and fish hooks.

Christmas Collage Using VLVS

Materials:
Frame
Brown Spray Paint (Rustoleum)
Creative Paperclay® Modeling Material
Cereal Box
Viva Las Vegas Christmas Collage Stamp #5157
Fabric Ribbon
Red Awning Red Glitter Robin's Nest Paper
Acetate
Gold Metallic Mica Powder
Paint
Brushes
Gold String
Snowflake Embellishment
Irridscent Gel Medium
Snowflake Stencil

1.  Roll out and create petals for the poinsettia (7 for the base - 5 for the 2 layer - 2 for the top).  Put the petals together one layer at a time.  Add little balls of clay for the center.  Allow to dry for 24 hours.

 2.  Spray paint frame Brown.  Use spray mount to adhere paper to the glossy side of the cereal box.

 3.  Add ribbon with Tacky Glue® to the frame.  Cut Acetate to fit inside the frame.

 

4.  Roll out more Creative Paperclay® and stamp into the clay.  Allow to dry for 24 hours.

  5.  Add gold Mica Powder while the clay is still wet.  It can also be added after the piece is dry.  Add Paint.

 6.  Use stencil and stamp the snowflakes on the background paper.

 7.  Add ribbon and music notes with the mica powder.  Using a gold string I attached the stamped piece to the background.  Using Tacky Glue®  everything else was mounted together.
