Earring Holder

Let’s make a fun DIY earring holder today.

All you need is:

Creative Paperclay 

Acrylic paint 

Knife

Rolling pin

Stamp or something to make a design 

Skewer or needle to make the holes

Take about 1/3 of a package of Creative Paperclay (More if you want to make a larger earring holder) and using your rolling pin flatten out the clay.  

Once the clay is flattened as thick as you would like (Don;t make it too thick or your earring won’t stay on it) cut out the shape of the holder.  For mine I just cut off the ugly edges but followed the rolled shape of the clay.  You could try cutting it rounded or leaf shaped.  Get creative!  Make sure to cut out a squarish base that is atleast 3” wide, the size will depend on how tall your top section is since this is what the holder will stand up on.

Now imprint the pattern.  You could use a stamp, like I did, a piece of lace, or maybe freehand draw a design onto it.

Next use a skewer, needle or even a pencil to create holes for the earrings.  You can group them in pairs or scatter them about like I did.

Using a box place the holder on the box with the bottom hanging over the edge to get the bend in the holder.

Keep an eye on it and once its about halfway hardened, but still pliable at the bend, remove it from the box and bend it a little deeper so that the top leans back away from you a little more.  Let it dry the rest of the way by sitting it on its base.  You may need to prop something against the from at first to keep it from slouching.

Let it finish drying.  It should take a day or two depending on your home.

Now grab your paint and paint it!  For mine I did an ombre look.  Start with your preferred color.  Then add a little white to lighten it slightly and paint a section.  Then add more white and paint another section.  Repeat until you reach the top.

Once the paint is dry it is time to add the earrings!

Ed Hardy Inspired Coffee Mug created with Paperclay

Good Morning!

Today's Creative Paperclay ® mug project was inspired by the artistry of Ed Hardy.

Supplies

Creative Paperclay®
Rubber stamp
Clay cutting tools
Clay roller
Sanding tools
Dishwasher safe decoupage
Chalk board paint
Metallic red acrylic paint
White acrylic paint 
Painters tape
E-6000 glue
White coffee mug
Alcohol
Cotton balls
Silver acrylic marker
Black acrylic marker

Directions 

1. Clean off the coffee mug with a cotton ball dipped in alcohol. Let it dry.
2. Apply painters tape to the top 1/2 inch of the mug.
3. Paint the mug and handle with chalk paint. Remove the tape and let dry.

4. Roll out a clay sheet then push the rubber stamp into the clay.

 

 5. Cut around the impression.

6. Lay the clay piece over the mug and put in a 175 degree oven for 45 min or until clay turns white and is dry.

7. When cool take the clay off the mug.
8. Sand and then wipe your clay piece down to remove any clay dust.
9. Paint the clay piece and let dry.

9. Seal the all sides of the clay with dishwasher safe decoupage.
10. Glue the clay piece on the mug.

Holiday Angel Tealight Candle Holder

Hi!


 For my last project of 2016 I thought I would try using modeling metal mesh with paperclay.

I wanted to create a holiday candle holder. I don't have any angels, and I decided it would be fun to have my first one be one that I designed and created myself.

If you would like to create one yourself here is what you will need:

 Materials
Creative Paperclay®
Metal mesh
Container of water
Damp paper towels
Clay shaping and rolling tools
Sanding tools
Wing mold
Cardboard
Hot glue and gun
Acrylic paint
Gesso
Matt varnish
Weather wood paint product
Crackle paint
Antiquing paint
Glamour Dust
Paint brushes
Tea light

Instructions 

1. Cut a gumdrop shape of wire mesh.
2. Roll it to form a cone shape.

3. Roll out a thin sheet of paperclay.
4. Place the cone on the clay and roll it onto the form.

5. Roll a ball for the head and two tubular shapes for the arms.

6. Attach the head and the arms to the body form.

7. Roll out a small flat piece for the tray.

8. Attach the tray to the arms using more clay so that the tray, the arms, and body form one piece. (see image below)

9. Roll out several strips of clay for hair and lay it on the head. Let it drape over the arms and attach at the ends. Separate the hair in the back leaving room for the wings to attach to the body.

10.Use a wing mold or cutter and create the wings.

11. Trace the bottom of the tealight in the clay. Cut out the circle and a small strip to wrap around the circle to form a cup.

12. Set everything aside to dry.( Because parts of the angel might collapse during drying I suggest making cardboard props.)

 11. When the pieces are 50% dry, remove the cardboard and finish drying them in a 250 degree oven. Time will vary. When your piece appears white they are ready to remove. Let cool. Caution: Pieces may be hot.

12. Sand down all your pieces. Wipe down with a damp paper towel to remove any sanding dust.

13. Apply a coat of gesso to all of the pieces.

14. Paint the candle holder and wings. While the wings are still wet, sprinkle Glamour dust on the them. 

 15. Paint the angel hair brown, and the body with a cream colored acrylic paint. (I used titan buff).

16. Paint the body ( not the face) and tray with weathered wood and let dry.

17. Apply a coat of crackle paint.


18. Apply a coat of antiquing paint on the body and the tray. When dry, wipe off the excess with a damp paper towel until you have reached the desired effect.

19. Apply a coat of matt varnish on all of the pieces.

20. Attach the wings to the back and the candle cup to the tray using hot glue.

The wire mesh was really helpful in this project. I will be using it again.
