Hola and Hi to all my wonderful friends. It is Gloriann Irizarry from #artbygloricom once more with a neat and easy tip. It is another wonderful summer day here in Upstate NY.

Since summer is almost done I wanted to share with you a super neat trick I pick up over the years of me sculpting with the super versatile Creative Paperclay.

 

 

 

I like to recycle olf materials so for this one I will use a old brown envelope I recently got from a order in the mail. Cut all arounf the edges of the envelope. Pull the envelope in 2 parts.

 

Now you can cover the one part with clear thin tape and then completely crinkle it up.

 

Now use the tape covered portion facing the nicely moist Creative Paperclay and press it all aound it.

 

Make sure you press firmly and are using the clear tape cover portion. The clear tape will give the envelope the protection it needs to hold the crinkles and will tranfer the texture to the clay very nicely.

 

Dont be afraind to press hard or moving the little crinkled ball of paper around to make diferent imprints on the flat wet layer of Creative Paperclay material.

 

Once you are happy with the results you can set is aside to dry. This is how I make the crinkled texture look on some of my mix media sculpted pieces. Looks great when you paint them because the paint loves to pool in the crevices and will give the piece a more three-dimensional look instead of a flat layer.

 

 

 

It also work good at night when you make any lamp from recycle glass. The harder you press the clay against the glass containes the more light you will get to shine thru the final piece.

Shari's tip of the month for November- Unexpected Paperclay Molds

Good Morning!

I was recently shopping for some new mixed media elements. I was ready to recycle the plastic form trays that they come in when I realized they were an  exact mold of the original. 

I found another to make keys. I started thinking even more outside the box and found a plastic mold off of my cupcake papers that will work too!

 I would suggest that you lightly spray the mold with cooking spray before adding your paperclay. Let the clay dry partially before removing it from the mold. 


I was really excited to share this tip with you. I am now looking at everything I purchase to see if I can use it as a mold. I love the fact that I not only have great molds but I reused something that would have normally been tossed or recycled.

How To Keep Your Mind Inspired?

Today I wanted to start with a great way tip to the one question I guess asked a lot.

How do you keep inspired to create? 

Sound simple but sometimes the inspiration seems to take a vacation. Now in order for you not to feel in a inspirational hole I got a few tips to help you get and keep those creative gears moving.

Tip #1



Keep an art journal and a pencil always handy. I always have one handy at the night stand or a small one in your purse with you. Feel free to keep has many has you want.  You really don't know when those creative ideas are going to pop in your head and even thou your not ready to complete the idea writing it down or sketching it will really save you the trouble to later on trying to remember what was that amazing idea you came up while your were at the doctors office or while waiting in line for lunch. Use it don't be afraid of taking your journal and write things downs.

This brings me to Tip #2

Don't be afraid to write details information about the idea down. Yes I had people said but I don't keep a journal because I do not know how to draw. Well to tell you the truth I know people that create amazing works of art and others that can barely doddle and still sculpt amazing. The journal is just a guide you kept so every time your out and enjoying the nature or viewing things that spark the imagination you can write them down and then continue with the normal daily routine and then when your ready to create to sculpt the instructions or template will be already there for you to follow. You can write them, doddle them or sketch them down what ever you do it will come very helpful for you. Then once your ready to work things will be a lot easier when your ready to start the project or craft you want.

 

Tip #3 

 

Organize your project idea material list. If your journal don't have what you want and feel like creating something totally new start by laying some items down in front of you. Choose some of you favorite fabric materials. The size of the armature you want your piece to be. Pick come of your favorite fabrics, wooden plaques, favorite Styrofoam shapes, aluminum foil and Creative Paperclay, Paverpol and lay it all down in front of you or in your working area sometimes looking at all these shapes, colors and forms could spark ideas or your next new project.

 

Some times having all these materials in front of your might help you come up with a totally new concept and create a new project that has no been added to your art/ideas journal.

Now don't be afraid to try or add other materials to your list or try to make it a challenge by adding a unique item like a soda bottle or a glass weird shape bottle

 

 

Example of a good how to keep inspire challenge would be

How could I include this unique shape Japanese soda bottle in my next project. Sometimes what the brains needs is a challenge to get those inventing gears moving.

Is all matter of patience and time both evenly distribute for you to come up with a great idea. Now do not try to force it if you don't end up right away with it is ok to walk away and rest. Do something else and come later to try to challenge your self again the beauty of the mind is that eventually that light bulb on top will light up.

 

Now I do hope this monthly tip help you to get inspire. The main trick is not to give up.

Lets add some color to Creative Paperclay Tip By Gloriann Irizarry

 

August is in and today tip will be base on a question I been asked many times.

 

Can you add color to Creative Paperclay® Material?

 

Well the answers is:

Yes you can.

 

This material is so versatile you can sculpt is right out of the package or lets add some color to it.

Its easy you can use many mediums out there like:

 

Water Colors

Acrylics

or my personal favorite the Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Inks

 

 

 

If you want to try to add color to your Creative Paperclay® start by adding some color to your paperclay. 

 

 

Open your favorite color of Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Inks and add drops directly to your clay.

 

 

I do recommend to wear gloves while mixing the clay since the alcohol ink will stain your hands.

Mix has much color has you want. Remember the more colorful you want the more ink you need to add to the Creative Paperclay®

 

 

 

I like to color my clay when I'm sculpting masks, Art dolls  and Ball Jointed Dolls BJD

 

 

By adding the color directly to the Creative Paperclay® is simple. This step will save you  time by not having to color or paint it once your done sculpting your piece.

 

 

 

Have in mind the color of the clay will lighten up once it dry.

Look at these BJD torsos examples of already dry Creative Paperclay®.

 

 

 

 

The Creative Paperclay® used one on the left torso is lightly tint with Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Ink and the started torso on the right is plain white right from the Creative Paperclay® package.

Best Creative Paperclay Tools Tips by Gloriann Irizarry

 

It is finally Summer. The weather is getting nice and hot. Now I have been ask about Creative Paperclay and what's the best tools to use so I will be answering this question to full extend today. Feel free to visit our Creative Paperclay Q&A Facebook page if full of many wonderful Creative Paperclay artist always helping others with any question you might have about Creative Paperclay .

 

 

Rollers are the best way to roll a clay sheet.

It doesn't have to be fancy or expensive a simple old aluminum foil paper roller will work.

Has long the cardboard is thick it should do the trick.

 

Aluminum foil is wonderful to create nice armatures and it is easy to bend and shape to most desired shapes. You can keep in the sculpt or removed the paper after the clay dry.

 

Freezer paper is great to keep the clay from sticking on your working surface.

Lay a sheet on your working table and can be use to keep the clay from sticking when you roll the sheets of clay out.

 

 

Stainless steel wires and foam forms are one of my favorites to use to create armatures for paper clay projects. They will save you time and money.

you can also use regular object like water bottles and foam to create intricate shapes. 

The best way to keep them from falling apart is Hot glue. Now the trick is not to use high temperature but use Low temperature instead and let it fully dry so it nice and thigh.

  



 

Hobby knife and carving tools work great .

 

Any spray bottle can be recycle for you to use has a water clay mister

 

Paper tape is wonderful to create nice armature or use has fillers for your sculpt.

 

 

Flat brushes are my favorite to smooth the sculpt with water.

 



 

Now don't be afraid to try other tools like executers, texture plates or mold design or marketed for either polymer clay of cake fondant they work wonderful on Creative Paperclay . You will be surprise all the wonderful thing available out there for you. If you cant find a tool you like don't give up is always fun to make your own too.  Now the possibilities are endless all you need to do is let your imagination Fly.

Creative Paperclay Material Sanding Tips By Gloriann Irizarry

 

Tips and tricks by Gloriann Irizarry for Creative Paperclay®

 

Welcome back to your Creative Paperclay® Blogs spot. Today I have a great tip to finish and clean your Paperclay creations.

 

If your like me and like to have a clean sanded project you see your self all cover in white and spreading all the dust everywhere.

 

 

Well I manage to cut down on dust by reducing the amount of sanding by using a nice

soft square flat brush before the piece completely dry.  

 

 

With the combination of these brushes and water will significantly reduce the amount of sanding.

Your probably wonder how, Well is not that difficult to do. Simply dab your brush in water once your done with your piece and before you place it to dry smooth any edges with the wet brush.

Make sure every so often you clean the brush in a washcloth to remove any Creative Paperclay® build up from the brush.  Once your satisfy with the look you can go ahead and set the piece aside to completely dry. I found this technique very helpful by cutting my sanding process in half.

 

If you smooth and rough edges before it dry with the brush it will less clay you need to sand off to make it look smoother. Keeping the brush with clean water will leave a nice smooth surface for you to work on when it dry. Go ahead try it. The softer the brush the better results you will get.

 

 

Another tip is also to get better results on your next  Sandits™  sanding project make sure you gently wash your Sandits™ tip with a toothbrush and warm running water. This will removed any fine Creative Paperclay® excess and give you the nice porous surface the tools need for your next project.

Tip: Cut Down on Sanding

I love working with Creative Paperclay®, but I must admit that I'm not a fan of the sanding process. I've discovered a couple ways to eliminate some of the sanding.

1. After I have a shape cut out, I dip my finger or a soft artist paint brush in water and gently smooth the edges. The paint brush is great for getting in small or intricate area of the clay design.
2. For the larger surface areas I coat the clay piece with slip. I use a wet artist paint brush to apply the fairly runny slip. Here's a great blog post about slip—how to make it and what it does. 

When I do have to do finish sanding, I've found that jeweler's files and an emery board work on most of the small projects that I create. Every once in a while I need to break out the Dremel for serious sanding, but the two tips from above always cut down on the sanding time.

Rubber Stamping Fun with Creative Paperclay and Gloriann Irizarry

Wow I can not believe July its almost over my dear friends and summer is at its peak.

My favorite think to do during the summer is going to the beach . I got inspired by a nice Stamp set I got from US Art Quest Inc.

Now my tip will be how to stamp a straight sheet of Creative Paperclay for you to glue on mix media projects.

Make sure when you roll the clay is not too wet.

If too wet the clay will stick to the stamp.

Place the your favorite stamp pattern on top of the soft semi dry clay and use your roller to stamp the details in the clay.

Carefully remove the stamp off. If you notice the clay sticking to the stamp it means it is too wet let it air dry a little and try again.

Once you achieve the desired shape and details let it completely dry .

Do not worry if it misshaped when it dry. 

The clay sheet will curve a little when it dry, but here is my tip to make if totally flat once more.

Find the biggest and fastest book. Yeap mine was a photoshop 6 book I haven't being able to read. 

Grab your already dry probably curved or miss shaped dry clay sheet and using a bottle mist spray lightly with water on the none stamped side of the clay and placed the FAT very fat book on top.

My book has a nice non stick cover and it helped to let the piece dry in the flat surface.

see now your clay sheet is totally flat and ready to be used on any mix media, card-making or scrap booking projects. All your need is a little glue and let your imagination fly.
