Cat Paw Print Wall Hanging

Last month I showed you a recycled box, with my cat's paw prints (each of them) - on the front of the box!  It is on my ledge in front of my sink in my kitchen, to hold all of their cat treats and things in, instead of all over my counter and house!  This sparked another fun idea - a wall hanging - with the same paw prints, only adding photos to this one!!  Great idea you can recreate for a fun gift, using a favorite pets picture and paw prints!   


As you can tell, our cats mean the world to us!  Our mamma cat Tygress, will be 15 on 9/5 - the boys will be 10 on the same day!  I wanted a way to keep their paw prints - without having to ink them to keep them!!!  This was the BEST thing I could do - and easy enough for me to do with the cats!  Ty won't be alive forever, I didn't want to loose her without having something of just hers!   

Supplies for this project:

Delight product for the ornaments

Brown cardstock

Cricut cartridge - Ashlyn's Alphabet

White ribbon

11 x 14 photo matt with space for 6 photos

Frame (optional)

Directions:
Step one:  Using the Delight product - roll out enough product to let your cat (or dog) walk on it, giving you the paw prints you need.  *Make a few extra - for use later on)  
Step two:  Using a circle of some sort - cut out the paw prints individually, as well as add a hole at the top for the ribbon to feed through.   Repeat step one and two for enough cats (or dogs) you have, labeling which pet it is on the back with a permanent marker after it has dried.  
Step three:  While the Delight product is drying - cut out the alphabet letters you need for your photos and projects, add them to your photo matt.  
Step four:  Cut 3 3.5 x 3.5" squares for 3 of the squares, set aside.  Cut 3 photos to the same size to place in the squares.  
Step five:  Take 1 of the photos, add it to the top using tape to keep it in place.  Put another photo at the bottom in the middle, and another at the top right - again, using tape to secure it.  Add the brown squares in the other squares, taping ONLY to the bottom. 
Step six:  Using a hole punch of some sort (I used a Silent Setter with the middle hole punch for my creation, it worked best), add a hole to the top middle square, bottom left and far right squares at 1.5" - all at the top of the squares. Feed through the ribbon before you tape the squares off.
Step seven:  After the Delight ornaments have dried, feed the ribbon through, tying a knot at the top.  Also add a small bow to the top where the hole is to conceal it!   

**Tip - if you do not have specific supplies, such as the die cut machine, feel free to substitute...stickers can also be used!    
  
This project was so much fun to make, and with my cat being as old as she is - a great way to add something of "hers" to something I will keep forever!   Thanks for letting me share this project with you today!  I hope you will make one of your own, and share it with me!

Dyed Creative Paperclay® with Rachel Whetzel

Hello, Creatives!! Rachel Whetzel here! I played this month, with some of my Alumilite Dye, and used it with my Creative Paperclay®! Then, I gave my dyed piece to my art student, and she created this!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED to make your own Dyed Creative Paperclay®:

• Creative Paperclay®
• Dye. I use Alumilite 

ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES FOR MIXED MEDIA CANVAS:

• Paper Doily
• Paints. I use Folk Art acrylic craft paints.
• Paint brushes 
• Scissors
• Butterfly image
• Glitter 
• Tattered Angels pearl sprays
• Punchinella
• Patterned paper
• Glue. I use Crafter's Pick : The Ultimate and Elmer's
• Typewriter or computer connected to a printer
• Krylon's Matte Finishing spray

I wanted to experiment with using my Alumilite Dyes and Creative Paperclay. I also have a new frame I've been wanting to mold, so I started by creating a mold for a frame that Emmie could use on an art piece she and I started last month.

 I put some drops of  purple Alumilite Dye onto the clay and kneaded it into the clay. It was light to begin with, so I kept adding dye and kneading until it was as dark as I wanted it. THAT'S IT!! Using the dye was so simple, I couldn't believe it! The clay still dried and shaped as usual, and the dye didn't stain my fingers! I was really surprised.

Keep in mind, that your clay color when wet is a lot like paint. It's always a little different (usually a little darker) than it will be dry. Once it was mixed, I pressed the clay into my mold, and put it on low heat in the oven to speed up the dry time.

 Emmie wanted some butterflies on her piece, and the one she chose was one that I only had one image of, so I took a picture of the butterfly, and then printed out more in a word document, so that I could print them out in varying sizes for her piece.

 OTHER DETAILS:

• A glued a paper doily to the base canvas, painted over it, with the paint away to reveal the texture of the doily. 
• Crafter's Pick was used to glue a mirror down under the frame, and we sprayed matte sealant over the whole piece to seal it all, but also to frost the mirror. 
• Punchinella used as a stencil with yellow and white paints
• Elmer's glue drizzled down the page and then glitter sprinkled over the top
• More glitter in dots around the page
• Flower embelishments that Emmie brought with her
• The lyrics to You are My Sunshine printed on patterned paper and adhered to the piece

Steampunk Christmas Ornament ACEO Frame

Hello There and Happy December, This is LuLu Lancaster with a simple ACEO Steampunk ornament frame.

I love the small original art cards known as ACEO, but sometimes it can be difficult to display them. 

This little frame is easy to make and is versatile where you can create different looks and even switch out the cards ;)

You will need 

~Creative PaperClay®

~an Artist trading card ACEO or small photo size 3.5"x2.5"

~a plastic sleeve for ACEOs

~tacky glue

~small dish of water

~scrap of lace

~metallic paint or mica pigments and glaze

~misc. metal objects~

old jewelry pieces bits of old chain

~a wipe out tool or smoothing tool.

~4 eye hooks or eye pins

~and ribbon

First you will need to make trace your card and create an opening either inside the tracing for a smaller opening and overall frame,

 or outside the tracing for a larger opening and larger frame size.

 Next you will need to roll out 4 small logs to place on your pattern. This will create the frame itself.

Smoothe the logs into one frame with a small amount water by either using your finger or a smoothing tool such as a wipe out tool. 

create a pattern in the clay for some texture. using an old scrap of lace you can gently imprint the clay by pressing down and rubbing a damp finger across the lace. Gently pull up to release and repeat on each side.

push 4 eye pins or eye screws into each corner of the frame. These are used for the ribbon and to hold your misc. bits and bobs.

Allow your frame to dry overnight. and gather your small pieces of metal or bits and bobs ;)

After your frame has dried you can paint it with metallic paint

attach the plastic sleeve to the back of the frame with a bit of tacky glue.

attach your findings to the bottom two eye pins, and add a length of ribbon ties to the top 2.

Slip your ACEO into the opening ;)

You now have a cute steampunk frame ornament.

Vintage Frame Repair

Hello!! Rachel Whetzel here!! Today, I'm going to show you how I repaired a vintage picture frame using  Creative Paperclay® modeling material.

As you can see, the molding on the corner of the frame was broken out. As I was getting this together, I almost felt like this might be TOO simple for a post here, but I'm so happy with how it came out! Plus, I want to show you how it truly IS so easy anyone can do it!!
SUPPLIES YOU WILL NEED:

• A picture frame or other object in need of repair.
• Creative Paperclay® modeling material
• Amazing Mold Putty
• Craft Paints in brown, black and white. (I used Folk Art)
• Paper towels and a dash of water.

To start off, I pulled any loose pieces out of the frame corner.

 Second, I created a mold from one of the un damaged corners of my frame using Amazing Mold Putty.

Once your mold is set, press your clay into the corner needing repair.

 Then VERY firmly, press your mold into the clay. I found that clay with no water added to it was easy to press and pull the mold off of to check. I pressed several times until I had the mold impression deep enough to blend with the surrounding area.

I used my fingers to blend the edges further, and then let the clay dry. Once the clay is dry, I painted the corner in brown.

When the brown was dry, I painted white VERY lightly over that.

All of the corners of the frame are slightly cracked up the center, so to imitate that cracked look, I used some black paint painted into the crack, and then used a damp paper towel to wipe that off. The water on the towel also removed some of the white paint, exposing the brown beneath, and imitating the worn look of the rest of the frame.
