Autumn Inspired Fall Marbled Earrings

Today I am going to show you how to create your own marbled pair of earrings.

Let's get started!

  

Required supplies:

Creative Paperclay

Wax paper or parchment paper

Rolling Pin

Acrylic paint (I used red, orange, and yellow for a fall look)

Knife for mixing (can be plastic)

Awl/Needle (Something that you can use to make a hole in your earrings)

Modge Podge Outdoor

Spray Clear Coat

Earring hooks x2

Jump Rings x4

Sandpaper

Let’s Create!

Once you have gathered your supplies, lay out a sheet of parchment or wax paper to protect your workspace and prevent the Creative Paperclay from sticking.

Now rip up the clay into small pieces to prep it for coloring.  Next add in you first (darkest) color by drizzling a little on top. 

Now use your knife and cut into the clay while mixing it around to distribute the color.  One at a time add in the orange and yellow paints and cut them into the clay with your knife.  There should still be some white showing as you mix too.

Once you are satisfied with the color, squish the pieces all together to create a ball and let dry for about 10-15 mins, otherwise the paint makes it too sticky and it will stick to everything.  Next flatten the ball with the palm of your hand and then roll out into a thin sheet!  You can also substitute a cup for the rolling pin.  If the clay is still too sticky when you go to roll it out then wait a little longer until you are able to get a smooth surface on the clay.

Roll it out a few times and flip it over to the other side also one side roll then pull it up from the surface to keep it from being too hard to pick up.

Once it has been thinly rolled out use a small glass or other round container to cut around.  I used the bottom of a small terra cotta pot.

Note:Be sure to keep your knife vertical as possible when cutting so the edges don’t taper.

Lift the clay away to reveal your cut out shapes (Feel free to cut out more than just two and try finding other shaped containers to use!) 

Next use a needle or awl to create a hole in the top of your earring.   

Now they need to dry.  To dry place heavy books or something on top when the earrings start to warp.   But be sure to remove the book every so often for quicker and even drying. 

Once they are dry, sand out any imperfections, especially on the edges.

Now let’s seal them!   I coat mine with outdoor modge podge and once it is dry go over with a spray clear coat, otherwise modge podge is very sticky.

Making Jewellry with Delight™ Clay

Delight™ Clay is so light it's great for making jewellry! Today I will show you how to make these wonderful pendants using Delight™ Clay and a few other supplies you should have laying around the house. Let's get started!

Supplies needed:

Delight™ Air Dry Clay

Rubber Stamps

Clay or Cookie Cutters

Craft Knife

Acrylic Roller

Craft Sticks and glue

Baby Powder

Paint Brush

Gesso

Acrylic Paint

Mica Powder

Varnish 

Step 1:

Glue two sets of craft sticks together. These will act as a guide for rolling out clay more uniformly.

Roll out the clay between the craft sticks. 

Step 2:
Press your rubber stamps into clay.

Step 3:
Use you clay/cookie cutters to cut out shapes.

Step 4:

Use the end of a paint brush to poke a hole at the top.

Step 5:

Leave to dry.

Step 6:

Apply a coat of gesso and put aside to dry.

Step 7:

Paint with acrylic paint and let dry.

Step 8:

Paint with a contrasting color and immediately wipe off with a paper towel. Alternatively you can brush with a mica powder. See video for demonstration.

Step 9:

Varnish and set aside to dry.

Step 10:

Add your favorite beading cord or string.

Row Counting Bracelet

Hi, I am Ann,  a newbie here on the Creative Paperclay® blog.  I am so pleased to be part of the Design Team and I promise to be at my creatively best craftiness while I am here.  For my first project that I want to share with you is this really practical,light weight and might I say, pretty bracelet.  I say it is practical because it is intended to be used as a tool for counting stitches and or rows when knitting or crocheting.  Plus, I am sure there could be other uses for it.  It doesn't hurt that it is cute too!

Supplies:

Creative Paperclay® modeling material
Nail polish ( I used Cosmic Colors in white, Markwins in Metallic blue, Julep in Brandt, and Sally Hansen in Clear)
Bead crimper tool "Bead Buddy"
Crimp beads x 2 "Bead Buddy"
Hardware store rubber "O" ring "Gold"
Stretch nylon cording "Craft Medley--Multicrafts" cut two pieces 12 - 14 "long (30-35 cm.)
Silver tone clasp and toggle "Dollar Tree"
Small silver spacer beads x 11, and Medium silver spacer beads  x 10 "Craft Medley--Multicrafts"
Silver jump ring (From my stash)
Bead Roller "Amaco"
Nail files or extra fine sandpaper (Dollarama)


Directions:

1. Using a small amount of Creative Paperclay® modeling material roll into a round bead 9 times.  I used a Bead Roller making tool from Amaco to get a uniform size to my beads.  That is not necessary.  Poke a hole through each bead with a toothpick or skewer.  Let dry.
Repeat to make 10 more larger or oval type beads.  Let Dry.

2.  After beads have fully dried and hardened (time will vary according to temperature and climate), sand beads to remove any particles and to smooth.

3.  Place beads on toothpicks and set into a piece of styrofoam to aid in the painting process.  Apply 2 coats of colour to beads. Let dry. Apply sealing coat with clear polish.

4.  With a small amount of Creative Paperclay® modeling material roll it out and flatten and cut out a charm piece.  I cut mine into a little mug and scored my first initial into it.  Let dry, paint and seal.

5.  Attach a jump ring to the charm. Set aside.

6.  Using cording pieces string one size of beads interspaced with silver beads on one cord.  Repeat for second cord and second set of beads.

7.  String rubber ring over two beaded cords.  String both ends of cord through a crimp bead and through the toggle (And/or clasp) and back through the crimp bead.  Crimp in place.  Repeat for other end of bracelet. Trim ends of cords.

8.  Attach charm ring to one end of bracelet.

The intended use of this type of bracelet is for the needle crafter to wear and to be able to keep track of stitches and rows.  The idea being that for every stitch one of the round beads is pushed through the ring and when all nine round beads have been through the ring that counts as ten stitches done or ten rows and then the larger beads are equal to ten each.

Make a bird brooch

Hi there, I'm Diana and I'm going to show you how to make a bird brooch! I love birds so much.

Here's the step by step:

You'll need some Podgeables by Plaid Crafts, and actually you can use any shape they have. They have crowns, hearts and flowers too, I think.

Carefully spread the podgeable with paper clay. 

Now, you're going to use a typewriter font background stamp, and press into the clay, making an impression into the clay. Let it dry, then get out some paint spray or ink spray:

It's best to add color to these with some sort of spray. Oh, and you can poke a hole at the bottom when the clay is still wet, if you wish to add beads hanging down from your brooch. 

After you've added color, let it dry some, and then go over the edges with a pigment ink based ink pad. Then, just spray it with some acrylic sealer.
