Lynda's Creative Canvas Project

I think this is by far one of my most favorite projects to date!!!  Simple - yet beautiful - and I can't wait to do even more!!!   I couldn't decide the photos to use at first - kept going back to these, partially because I love them so much, yes the photos and the people in them!  

Supplies used:
16 x 20 Canvas 
Delight product
Cookie cutters - flower and heart
Stampin' Up molded flowers (3)
4 different sheets of cardstock/paper
Paint - various colors to match
Sizzix die cut - vine 
Twinkling H2O's - Sunflower & Rose Gold
Studio G's silver & gold glitter glue
Mod Podge glue
Hot glue gun

Directions:  
Step one - Flatten out the Delight product and cut 3 flowers and 3 hearts from the flattened out product.  Set aside and let dry completely.

Step two:  With the paint you have selected - paint streaks all across the entire canvas - set aside to dry completely.  

Step three:  Using 2 sheets of paper with 1 photo, start by using the Mod Podge glue to adhere the photo matt's together.  Finish by adhering the Mod Podge glue to the top of the papers as well.  Set the canvas aside to dry. 

Step four:  Add the photo to the top of the matted papers after the glue has dried - and start to paint each of the 3 hearts and flowers with the Twinkling H2O's paint.  Set aside to dry.  

Step five:  Die cut the Sizzix vines - one for each of the flowers, glue to the bottom of each - add a flower to the top.  

Step six:  After the paint has dried - add the shapes to the canvas - using gold glitter glue for the flowers, and silver glitter glue for the hearts to add a bit of bling!  

     

The entire project didn't take too long to make - and by using the Delight product - took less time to actually finish drying!  I can't wait to see what the rest of the projects I have in my mind - looks like!  Fun and easy project for sure!!

Lynda's Altered Box

I get a lot of boxes - and hate to throw them away!  I have a desk that holds most of my creative stuff - along with a few other small pieces which holds other small pieces that is!  Since I have all these boxes - I decided to alter one, using molded flowers using the Delight product!!!  

Supplies used:
Priority mail box 
Stampin' Up papers and cardstock
Stampin' Up white bakers twine
Sizzix vine and flower die cut
Flower mold
Delight product
Border punch
Bakers twine
Luminart Paint - Sunflower and Rose Gold
 
**Tip - make sure to find molds you will use a lot, and make up a bunch of them ahead of time!  This way - when you need them, they are made and ready to go!!!  

Directions:
Step one:  Start with the box and cut the flaps from the top of the box.  

Step two:  Start with the papers for the inside with the bottom first - then the 2 small sides, finishing with the 2 longer sides.  

Step three:  Add the outside papers - starting with the small sides first - then the longer sides.  

Step four:  Cut a "V" on each corner - to allow for the paper to be folded down to the inside.  Make sure you use adhesive to glue it to the inside to hold it down.

Step five:  Take a white sheet of cardstock - measure to just a bit smaller than the side of the box - border punch around the top and bottom edge.

Step six:  Take the vine die cuts and the flowers (I used two for each flower and layered) - and add them to the front on top of the white sheet from step five.  

Step seven:  Paint the already molded (and dried) flowers in the Sunflower and Rose Gold to go on top of the flowers - 2 of each color.  Then take 2 small flowers, paint in Sunflower and 1 larger one and paint in Rose Gold - add to bottom corner.  

Step eight:  Finish with the bakers twine going around the whole box and making a bow at the front!         

 








Step nine:  Add your scrapbook/creative items to the inside of the box and get ready to make more!!!   

Great to simply add things you are working on - at the time you need them, putting away when you simply do not have the time TO do something...  Plus you can simply grab a new box and alter it as you change designs or you find a new paper design you want to use!  Make more than one using one printed and solid pack that coordinates!   I know this will help me get very organized, keeping out only what I need at the time!  Easy project - can be used for so many things and so many rooms!

Mothers Day Goodie Container

Mothers Day is coming up - and my mom and sister love chocolate!  So I figured I would recycle a "peanut" container (shown below) to create this adorable "goodie" container to hold all their chocolate!  I can't wait to get it filled up and in the mail this week!  

Supplies:
Peanut container (bought at Walmart)
Delight (1 package)
Ribbon and twine
Paper (I used Stampin' Up)
Flower mold's (molded with Delight)
Hot glue gun and adhesive for the paper

Directions:
Step one:  Flatten out the Delight product.

Step two:  Cut strips about 1" or so, using a ruler to make the strips as straight as possible.

Step three:  Take the strips of Delight - and start to ruffle around the edge of the lid, going around the entire edge.

Step four:  Take a circle made from the lid itself, to put on the top of the ruffled edge.  

Step five:  Add the paper to the front of the container to cover up the label.  

Step six:  Add the molded flowers to the front of the container on the paper.  

Step seven - When the Delight product has dried - add ribbon and twine around the edge, with a bow on the front!  

I can't wait to go shopping for my mom and sisters' favorite snacks and fill it up for them!  Fun project to make just in time for Mothers Day - and simply by using different paper and molds - can be switched for any holiday or event!  I hope you enjoy, and thanks for stopping by!

Delight™—ful Bookmarks

In our house, we love books!! I think we have enough books to open a small library. Chloe could shelve the children's section with hers alone. She's always enjoyed pretending to read, telling a lively story, turning the pages of the book much like the library's story hour reader. Well, now she is beginning to read, and books have a whole new fascination.

Together we decided that a new reader ought to have bookmarks to go along with her books. We started with a ball of Delight™ modeling medium about the size of a golf ball. Chloe flattened it a bit and rolled it through our pasta machine (the one reserved for crafting). With every pass through the machine, we adjusted the settings to produce an increasingly thin strip of Delight™.

We set the strips aside to dry overnight. They curled a bit, but were easily flattened with a warm iron.

I used a paper cutter to trim the uneven sides, but you could as easily cut the strips with scissors. We decorated them each in a different way. This one we embossed using an embossing folder and Cuttlebug, then sponged acrylic paint over a stencil.

These we decorated using border punches. 

This bookmark was stamped. 

We also colored some of the Delight™ with acrylic paints before processing it through the pasta machine. Just knead a few drops of paint into the modeling medium for clay the color of your choice.

I think making your own bookmarks is a great way to encourage a child's interest in books and reading.

Kid's Project: Molded Acorns

Autumn decorations are getting a lot of attention in our house right now, so we decided to make some clay acorns to display.

I had these silicone molds from another project, but they were perfect for working with the clay.

For this project, we used Delight™ air dry modeling compound because it releases from the silicone molds so easily.

We pressed a small ball of Delight™ into the molds, turned the mold over (open side down) and pressed the top of the mold to ensure the compound completely filled the mold. Then, we gently pulled away the excess from the edges of the molds.

When the mold was flexed, the acorns popped right out. We set them aside to dry overnight. Here is a sample of our dried acorns, ready for trimming, sanding, and painting.

I used scissors to trim the acorns, and jeweler's files to sand some of the cut edges. The Delight™ molded beautifully!! No sanding at all required on the surface of the acorns. Yeah!! I'm not a sanding fan. And it captured the details of the molds.

I used acrylic paints on these acorns. While the paint was still wet I sprinkled some with mica dust. Here's a sample of our autumn acorn decorations.

With the addition of some hardware, these would also make great refrigerator magnets or pins and pendents.

Lynda's March Tips

I love working with Creative Paperclay - I especially like easy projects that don't have a lot of instructions for me to get lost in - that can be completed in little time!  I have also been using a lot of the Delight Air Modeling Compound, for many different reasons!  So, when deciding what type of "stuff" you want to work with where your creation is concerned, keep in mind the following:

• If you want your project to be more lightweight - use Delight. 
• If you want your project to be more sturdy - use Creative Paperclay.
• If you want your project to be able to be painted - use Creative Paperclay.
• If you want your project to dry quickly - use Delight.
• Delight is more "pure white" where Creative Paperclay dries white.

Now, make sure you check out the Creative Paperclay web site, to order your product.  Or - grab a coupon to your local craft store and pick it up there for a bit cheaper!  Keep in mind - if your project is not turning out the way you would like it to - and you are just in the molding stage, simply roll the piece you did wrong in to a ball and try it again!  No need in throwing anything away!   Keep your clay in an airtight Ziploc brand baggie, I keep mine in individual colors I have mixed up!  
Most importantly, have fun with this fun stuff!  I can't wait to share with you the fun projects I am working on for Easter - and some scrapbook projects too!   Oh and how can I forget an altered box that holds my cat's treats in them, with their paw prints on the Delight Air Modeling Compound now can I!!!  Make sure you check my blog for a few extra projects the next few months that won't be on the blog here!

A Delight-Ful Tip, By Diane

Hello there,
 hey, how was Valentine's day?   Did you spoil your Valentine rotten!  That's what we creatives do.. right?   We express ourselves with love, kindness and a heart-felt handmade gift ...

  I kinda have to  brag here for a second about our Design Team, THEY ROCK!  Don't they?  I hope you all had a chance to visit each of them on the Creative Paperclay's® Blog Hop,Link Party and try out some of their projects. 

My head was just spinning with inspiration after visiting each of those creative gals. If you haven't had a chance to visit you can go HERE to see the amazing creations/ tutorials from our Designs Team.

 Today for my tip, I would like to talk about Delight Modeling Compound . As you may remember, I used this modeling material for the first time on these two tutorials. " My Eye Is on You Valentine" & " A Monster Ornament/Treat holder".

 I loved working with Delight.  It is a different clay in some aspects, like it's texture is light and fluffy- kinda like a marshmallow and when it dries, it reminds me of one of those long foam pool noodle toys, and it's so light. Perfect to use with push molds, scrapbooking amd mixed media art.

 The one thing that sticks out that I'd like to share is- I found that  whether you are using it in a push mold, sculpting it, or cutting it out, it is much easier and in the long run, quicker to smooth away your imperfections, seams and unwanted edges using your damp finger or a paintbrush.  before you allow your piece to dry.
 I found by doing this, I was able to eliminate the sanding process once my Delight piece was dried.
 Gosh, it's okay with me if I can skip the sanding step...right?

Mini Spooky Spring Maypole Project with Delight ™ Air dry modeling Material

Hello There! This is LuLu Lancaster with a little spooky Spring Mini Maypole :)

I have many of these Vintage Industrial Bobbins. I have them in baskets and have used them for projects but am always looking for another way to use them creatively. You could use any type of hollow length of material for this project, perhaps Bamboo? If a Bobbin is not readily available.

This is very easy to make

First Gather your materials

A Vintage Bobbin or any hollow length of material like a bamboo stick

Ribbons~Approx. 20" lengths

Delight™ air dry Modeling Material

a 3" styrofoam ball

an xacto knife

needle and thread

acrylic paint

paintbrush

silk or paper millinery flowers

clay shaper tool or chopsticks

Tacky Glue

The fist thing you will need to do is make sure your vintage bobbin has a clear opening all the way through ;) 

Next you will sew approx. 8 ~20" lengths of ribbon at the end just a couple stitches will do.

Now that you have stitched the ribbons at one end,

 you will drop the needle into the larger end of the Bobbin.

When the needle comes out the smaller end you will pull tightly (but not too tight you may snap the thread) add a dab of tacky glue to the small end to hold the thread in place.

Taking your Styrofoam ball and your xacto knife carefully cut the ball in half.

You will only be using 1 half so save the other for another project or maypole :)

Insert the small end of the bobbin into the styrofoam. with some water and your clay start covering the foam. This will be your base of your maypole.

Making the tiny skulls

Now you will shape small skulls.

With small thumb size pieces of clay make a rough ball and pinch the bottom half.

using a clay shaper tool or even chopsticks poke eyes in the clay nostrils and teeth if you like.

It takes approx. 24 small skulls to cover the base.

using the tacky glue start applying the skulls to the base.You do not need to wait for the Delight™ material to dry ;)

Once you have the base covered take a little Black watered down acrylic paint and 

paint the eyes nostrils and teeth on your skulls :)

You can add small silk or paper flowers in the spaces if you like also.
